PlayStation History:

The Play Station was released in 2004. It was one of the first systems to use DVD Discs and not Cartridges. The Play Station has home and portable versions. PlayStation Portable was the first portable version. The newest portable PS is PlayStation Vita. Sony and Nintendo were in a partnership. they were going to make a system together but Nintendo quit and made the Nintendo 64 on it’s own after they partnered with Phillips to make the CD-I and left. So Phillips, Sony and Magnovox made the CD-I together and Phillips had limited permission to use Nintendo characters and some Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Spin offs were made. When the Nintendo Partership broke, Sony was made. They wanted to make something to compete with Nintendo. So they made the PlayStation. They also made PSone and redesigned the PlayStation.

PlayStation 2 was made and was 1 year before the DreamCast and GameCube . It had two models, Original and Slim which are above from left to right. The PS2 was cancelled in 2013, and PS3 came out in 2006 so PS3 became the main focus while newer games were still released, but not as many as on PS3. The PS2 was compatible with PS1 games and the Model 1 had some minor disc problems. Model 2 had some problems with the chords. Model 1 had a power switch which when press turned on a red light on the front which was on a button that you could press and it was turn blue which would slide the disc tray out. The PS2 Model 2 had a button which opened the top similar to both models of Play Station. There were USB ports used for special controllers such as the Rock Band or Guitar Hero Microphone. On the PlayStation 3, the controllers were wireless and used USB to charge, so there were two USB ports instead of the normal port. PS2 used Dual Shock 2 and it was not that different from Dual Shock

PS3 was released in 2006. It was against the Wii, xBox 360 and very late on, Wii U the first 8th gen console came, just before PS4 and xBox 720 which are coming soon. The PS3 and xBox were more popular because of HD graphics and more hardcore games. Original, Slim and Super Slim are the 3 available models. It used Dual Shock 3. The major difference is that the controllers came wireless, you didn’t need to get it seperatley if you wanted wireless. They also came with a USB charging port for it. This was better than the Wii controllers where you needed 2 AA batteries. The Wii had optional 3rd party chargers but from what I’ve used none of them last that long or work that good. Model 1 had a disc slot like PS2 Model 1 but it didn’t slide out. Discs just got inserted into it like on the Wii. Model 2 is the same way. Model 3 has a top disc tray that you can press the button to open even if it’s off. This is good so if your PS3 breaks, you can easily get the game out to repair or replace without needing to take it apart to get your game.

PS4 is supposed to come this september. It will feature a Dual Shock 4 controller with a touch screen, probably and motion sensor. Probably the most notable Dual Shock change, it should be called Dual Shock 2.

Above is a prototype that I previously talked about.

Other:

The PocketStation was a portable PlayStation before PSP. It was never released in the US but was very popular in Japan and could be used as a memory card.
